June 2 — Graphic Novel Creators on the Story of the 442nd Regiment in WWII – 2 PM – MLK Jr. Auditorium, Main Library — The 2018 Santa Monica Reads community reading program continues as Koji Steven Sakai, Phinneas Kiyomura and Rob Sato, creators of the digital graphic novel 442, present The Story of the 442nd Regiment in WWII, the U.S. Army’s Japanese American combat unit. Members of this unit risked their lives behind enemy lines, even as their families were behind barbed wire in internment camps. The regiment remains the most highly decorated unit in the history of American warfare.
